GANGWON-DO
Located below North Korea on the eastern side of the peninsula, there are many DMZ tourism sites in Gangwon-do Province’s Goseong, Cheorwon and Yanggu. Visitors can see and feel the reality of the world’s only divided nation at the Unification Observatory , which offers close views of the North’s Geumgangsan Diamond Mountains and Haegeumgang, the villas of Syngman Rhee, South Korea’s first president, and Kim Il-sung, North Korea’s first leader, near Hwajinpo Lake, and the DMZ Museum, which details the 60+ years after the division of the Korean peninsula. DMZ tourism sites in Cheorwon such as the DMZ Eco Peace Park Trail, which was a restricted region for a very long time, the Labor Party Headquarters, heavily scarred from the Korean War.
